RESUMO Este caso de ensino tem o objetivo de entender o dilema entre nível de serviços e custos na logística de distribuição business to business numa empresa do varejo da construção civil. A empresa enfrentava uma situação de desvantagem no mercado por ter uma tabela de preços abaixo dos valores do mercado, resultando em falha de previsibilidade e continuidade na demanda por frete. Diante desse cenário, o caso levanta um dilema: como aumentar o nível de serviços sem incorrer em maiores custos? Os objetivos pedagógicos deste caso são: analisar potenciais alternativas para elevar o nível de serviço, discutir formas de fidelização dos prestadores de serviços logísticos e aumentar a eficiência da logística de distribuição por meio da melhora do serviço. Desta maneira, este caso pode ser aplicado em cursos de graduação e de pós-graduação lato e stricto sensu, além de poder estar presente na educação profissional, com temas ligados à logística de distribuição, nível de serviço, eficiência operacional, desempenho logístico, gestão de fornecedores, gestão de contratos/modelos de contratação, gestão de riscos, padronização e responsabilização de rotas. O caso também é recomendado para estimular a criatividade dos alunos e prepará-los para a coordenação de atividades profissionais na área de logística.

ABSTRACT This teaching case describes the process experienced by Coppead, one of the main graduate schools in business in Brazil, to adapt to e-learning. The change is driven by the social isolation adopted in the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The case reports on the decisions that the faculty collegiate, led by the director Elaine Tavares, has needed to take to circumvent the quarantine and ensure teaching continuity at Master, Doctoral, and Executive MBA levels. The case discusses the main challenges during the transition, but most importantly highlights the strategic opportunities that this shift has offered for innovation in the coming years.

The case portrays a fishing company in the segment that suffered a disruption in demand from the international market as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Its managers, who already acted to mitigate previous financial problems, now need to decide how to dispose of fish production during the pandemic. The case encourages the development of analytical competence on the impact of a rupture in demand, the identification of relevant costs for decision-making from an income statement, and managerial decision-making based on incremental cost analyzes. This case, based on interviews and estimated accounting data, was designed for undergraduate and graduate courses focused on costs in the areas of Business and Accounting.

RESUMO Este caso objetiva promover uma reflexão sobre o processo de escrita de casos para ensino e direcionamentos para aplicação do método. Em 2020, João Luiz Marinho, doutorando em Administração na Universidade do Aprendizado (UNIAPRE), foi desafiado pelo professor Fernando a escrever o seu primeiro caso para ensino para aplicação na disciplina de Estratégias Organizacionais, da qual era estagiário em docência. Porém, muitos questionamentos sobre a construção e aplicação de casos para ensino sondavam os pensamentos de João, uma vez que este não tinha experiências anteriores com o método, possuía pouca prática na docência e a migração das aulas para a modalidade on-line era novidade. Assim, a proposta foi fazer com que os alunos se colocassem no lugar de João, a fim de propiciar um debate sobre a escrita e aplicação de um caso para ensino na modalidade on-line. Sugere-se sua aplicação nos cursos de pós-graduação lato sensu e stricto sensu em Administração, nas disciplinas de Metodologia e Casos para Ensino.

ABSTRACT his case aims to promote a reflection on the teaching case writing process and directions for applying the method. In 2020, João Luiz Marinho, a doctoral candidate in Administration at the University of Learning (UNIAPRE), was challenged by Professor Fernando to write his first teaching case for application in the Organizational Strategies discipline, of which he was an intern in teaching. However, many questions about the construction and application of teaching cases probed João’s thoughts, since he had no previous experience with the method, he had little practice in teaching, and the migration of classes to the online mode was very new. Thus, the proposal is to make students put themselves in João’s place, in order to provide a debate on the writing and application of a case for online teaching. It is suggested that it be applied in lato sensu and stricto sensu graduate courses in Administration in the disciplines of Methodology and Teaching Cases.

RESUMO Este caso de ensino apresenta o dilema enfrentado pela Nuveo em sua busca por crescer sustentavelmente e consolidar-se no mercado de inteligência artificial do país. Ao identificar a possibilidade de ofertar o uso da sua tecnologia de reconhecimento de imagens para a segurança pública, o fundador da startup depara-se com questões éticas envolvidas com essa oportunidade. Ao contar a história da Nuveo, este caso permite a identificação de princípios e recomendações para o desenvolvimento e uso ético de sistemas de IA, propiciando ainda discussões acerca dos desafios éticos relacionados à transformação digital e seus impactos para os indivíduos, empresas e sociedade. Este caso de ensino foi elaborado para ser aplicado em cursos de graduação e pós-graduação em administração de empresas, administração pública e tecnologia da informação, em disciplinas que abordem ética digital, ESG (environmental, social, and governance) e inteligência artificial.

ABSTRACT This teaching case presents the dilemma faced by Nuveo in its quest to grow sustainably and consolidate itself in the Brazilian artificial intelligence market. When the opportunity comes to offer his image recognition technology for public safety, the startup’s founder finds himself up against ethical issues. By telling Nuveo’s story, this teaching case allows the identification of principles and recommendations for ethical development and use of AI systems, enabling discussions about ethical challenges related to digital transformation and its impacts on individuals, companies, and society. It is intended for use at undergraduate and graduate courses in business administration, public administration, and information technology and can be applied in disciplines that address digital ethics, ESG (environmental, social, and governance), and artificial intelligence.

RESUMO Este caso para ensino descreve o processo de mudança organizacional do Parque Tecnológico da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro - PTEC-UFRJ, organização que desempenha papel fundamental no ecossistema de inovação da universidade e do estado em que se localiza. A mudança vem sendo implantada desde 2019 com base na visão de uma liderança que entende que a sustentabilidade econômica do Parque depende de redirecionamento estratégico e transformação das atitudes e comportamentos dos colaboradores, além de revisões nas configurações internas de processos e responsabilidades. No entanto, o PTEC-UFRJ apresenta a particularidade de ter sua liderança escolhida pela Reitoria da UFRJ. Nesse contexto, iniciativas gerenciais adequadas para sustentação e continuidade das mudanças são aspectos fundamentais para assegurar as conquistas alcançadas. O caso relata as decisões e ações que o diretor executivo do PTEC-UFRJ tomou no sentido de orientar a mudança estratégica no Parque, frente aos desafios enfrentados. Tendo em vista os resultados e objetivos já atingidos, o mais relevante é discutir as perspectivas futuras, o papel da liderança e as políticas e práticas organizacionais que garantam a sustentação da mudança.

ABSTRACT This teaching case describes the organizational change process of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro Science Park (PTEC-UFRJ), an organization that plays a leading role in the innovation ecosystem of both the university and its surrounding state. The change process began in 2019, rooted on the leadership’s view that the Park’s economic sustainability depends on strategic redirection and transformation of employees’ attitudes and behavior, along with the redesign of PTEC-UFRJ’s internal processes. However, PTEC-UFRJ has the peculiarity of having its leadership appointed by the University Dean’s Office. In this context, management initiatives directed to supporting the change process are fundamental to secure its achievements and ensure its continuity. The case describes the decisions and actions took by PTEC-UFRJ’s executive director in order to guide the strategic change in the Park and the challenges faced. In view of the results and objectives already achieved, the most important point is to discuss PTEC-UFRJ’s future perspectives, the role of leadership and organizational policies, and practices that guarantee the sustainability of the organizational change
